My writing explanation with Jasmine about baby birds
How do baby birds survive to adulthood?
Baby birds are so cute and they look as if they have an easy life. But in reality, it can be a bit tricky! Learning to fly in ONE day is like learning to swim in ONE HOUR! Baby birds must have A LOT of trouble, so here is some information.
Nearly all baby birds are without covering and blind when they come out of the egg. They are called hatchlings. Their parents must keep them warm and feed them roughly every 15 minutes during the day. Most young birds ask for food by opening their beaks and chirping. This is called gaping or food begging. The parents put food into the babies mouths. Every type of bird eats different foods. Some eat bugs, some eat berries, and some eat seeds when they’re older. The adults know just what to feed the babies.
Soon their eyes open and feathers start to grow, and then the babies are called nestlings. The new feathers are called blood quills or pin feathers. These new feathers look like shiny blue tubes. The birds tails are just starting to grow, and are less than 1/2 inch long.
Birds that are two weeks old are called fledglings. They have grown so fast that now they have feathers, and a tail that's about 1/2 inch long. The birds are inquisitive and want to discover the world. They leave the nest even though they can’t fly or eat on their own. The beginner birds hop on the ground and call to their parents to be fed.
It will take the little birds a few days to be able to fly up to unelevated branches. It will take two weeks for them to learn to feed themselves. The parents show the young ones how to find food and what to eat. The adult birds make loud noises to warn the fledglings when danger is close-at-hand.
After two more weeks, the babies are as big as adults and can fly well. They have long tails and are called juveniles. Some will still plead with their parents for food, even though they can eat on their own! Soon the parent birds get ready for their next group of babies. Most birds can only have families in the spring and summer, and will have 2-3 nests of young during this time of year.So from the facts that we have found out, baby birds seem to live a simple life, but they don’t. They lead very complicating lives. But by the time they're adults, they have become mature and responsible. They’re definitely not babies anymore.
Thanks for reading!!

Our groups turtle writing
Paragraph one
An adult sea turtle from the late Jurassic period, which was 150 000 000 years ago, climbs up a beach to lay 50 to 200 ping pong sized eggs. First she digs a huge hole, so that she can lay the eggs. Sadly, in theory, 20% don’t hatch.
Paragraph two
After 6 weeks, 800 leathery eggs hatch. The baby sea turtles are so small, they can fit in the palm of your hand. Then they start to crawl towards the water. Only 50% make it, because of the crabs and birds. Once they’re in the water, their next problem are big fish and whales.
Paragraph Three
As the recently hatched sea turtles slide into the water, new animals are after them. This includes different types of fish, sharks, dolphins and also whales. They are extremely cautious as they swim up to the surface to take a breath of fresh air. After a few months of swimming in the ocean, the sea turtles group together under a slimy patch of seaweed for shelter from their hunters. After a passage of years, the survivors increase their size. Roughly 50% of the sea turtles that made it into the water would perish. After a long time, the sea turtles are old enough to come to the surface to breed. 20% make it to the breeding age without human interference, and only 2 survive to breeding age with human interference.
Conclusion
They have been living for as long as 150 million years, since the late Jurassic, which is amazing. It was thought to be a long shot, but it’s instead a miracle.

What if it rained everyday?
If it rained everyday, there would be good things and bad things.
Yellow Hat:
The good things about rain are that plants and flowers would get LOTS of water. (Maybe too much water). It would also help the farmers with their crops and things,

Dear Zoo Keeper
I am writing to offer my opinion about the enclosure
that I am kept in.
First, I would like to tell you that I am happy that the dirt on the ground of my enclosure matches my fur, other than my black spots. I also want to tell you that
I love my hut because other than that, I have no shelter. I really like my ditch at the front of my habitat because I can hide in it easily. There are also plenty of bushes for me to sunbathe behind, so I thank you greatly for that.
But of course, there are the bad things about my enclosure. The first bad thing is that other than the hut that I have, I have no other shelter, so I have to make a run for it when it starts to rain. It’s also usually very noisy at the front of my enclosure. That ditch that I mentioned before is also sometimes a nuisance, because it’s actually not very wide, but it is quite long, so I have to squish myself in every time I go into it. The last bad thing is that I would quite like some trees in my habitat because I only have bushes.
I appreciate you very much for caring for all my needs.
Lots of love
Spotty (it’s the Serval cat)

What is tessellation?
Tessellation is a pattern that is joined by the same shape to create a tessellation. Tessellations are usually the same colours, like red, orange and white. It could be a tree shape, or even flowers. Then all you have to do to make a tessellation is to join them.

My cross country experience
I was standing at the start line, wondering if I would make it to the finish line after three laps of the torturous field. I could hear Mr V.B telling us our course, but I barely heard him. I was thinking of my horrible adventure ahead. I heard the BEEP and I started running like the wind. I splashed about in the muddy grass until I got to the courts.
I was thinking, "Oh no, the hill’s next".
I started to slow down a little bit but I didn't want to slow down too much because I knew Mr V.B would say, "Come on, keep running!".
Then, all too soon, it was time for the hill. I almost died just looking up at it, let alone RUN up it. I FINALLY made it to the top, but then I had to go down...
Now, you might've guessed that the hill was my least favourite part of the course, (it was kind of obvious), but my second least favourite part was going down the hill. Do you know why going down is so bad? Because you might get your foot stuck in some mud or (this is what I did), you might slip going down. I did that during training and it actually scared me. Not because of the mud, because of the change in gravity. But anyway, the good news is that I got to the bottom without slipping, and I was so relieved. But I was already stressing because I had to do the hill again!
I thought to myself, "If I can complete that hill again without collapsing, I'll be lucky!"
I ran along the concrete pavement for a little while, then I came to the battlefield again. I saw a couple of girls already finished and I thought,
"Wow, they ran fast".
I started to run a bit faster and before long, it was hill time. I was practically dragging myself up. Then I went down. I was overjoyed for two reasons. 1 I had gone down the hill without slipping again, and 2 I only had to run along the concrete pavement, then down onto the field and I would be done! Just thinking about finishing gave me confidence that I could do it. (Like I had a choice, you have to finish your race). So I jogged down the pavement and I was almost at the field when I got a horrible stitch. I had to walk for a couple of seconds to catch my breath as well, then I was off again. I almost sprinted down the field to the end. Just as I was about to go down the finishing shoot, out of the corner of my eye I noticed a girl who had been running behind me start to run faster. I didn't really have the energy to sprint anymore, but I really wanted to beat her to the finish line, so I started running faster too. It felt like I was doing the race all over again. But in the end, the other girl JUST beat me by 1 second. But I was too happy that I had finished to worry about that. I was just so relieved that I was finished.

My swimming experience
Today was our 3rd swimming lesson at Millennium. It was my favourite lesson because we did a lot of freestyle without the boards, which is my favourite style of swimming. My other favourite type of swimming is the dolphin kick/swim. We also did some backstroke which is my least favourite type of swim, but I did it anyway ( like I had a choice ). I think I could work on my backstroke and my frog legs swimming technique. Eventually, I got a little better at freestyle with a board, but I still like the freestyle without the boards. Then we had to get out for the other class to do their lesson. Swimming is my favourite sport!

Around Pinehill senses writing KM
One spring afternoon, I was walking around the playground. There was a faint breeze and I heard it whispering my name. Then it stopped. I felt it fly past my legs as if it was a rocket. Then I smelt the strong smell of freshly mowed grass swirling round my nose and I could see the breeze blow someone’s hat right off their head.

My reading tasks No. 9
1. Grade your author out of 10 and fully justify why.
I grade the author of the book, Cindy Miles, an 8 out of 10.
Positives
The positives about the author are: she's put a lot of thought and time into writing this book and I would really like to read another one of her books. Also she made up (or based them on someone) really cool characters and settings.
Negatives
The negatives about the author are: she's only written one book, and that really disappoints me because her first book, Forever More, was really good and it made me want to read more of her books, but she doesn't have any other ones. That's the only negative thing about the author!
That's why I give Cindy Miles (the author) an 8!

My reading tasks No. 7
1. Grade your story out of 10 and fully justify why.
I grade my story Forever More a 9 because it's the best book I've ever read but it does get a bit boring at one point.
Positives
The positives in this story are: it has lots of drama/horror, a little bit of fantasy and adventure and mystery. I also really like all of the characters because they're all so interesting and all have important parts in the story.
Negatives
The negatives are: there's a part in the story that's really boring and that's when Ivy's in her classroom. There's also a character that doesn't matter.
That's why I give this story a 9!
My reading tasks No. 6
1. Explain an incident and tell why it happened.
- Ivy wakes up in the night to invisible fingers choking her.
Ivy is in bed when it happens, but she wakes up in the night to invisible fingers choking her until she couldn't breathe. The lights flickered on and off and the room grew icy cold. I think this happened because of the possessed red ruby ring that Lady Elizabeth wears. I think that the ring is trying to kill Ivy and that's why it choked her.

1. Compare a character with someone you know.
- Emma (Ivy's new school friend)
I compare Emma to one of my friends, Brie, because she's basically got the same personality as her. I also think she's like another one of my friends, Sarah, because she's really brave and not afraid to do what she thinks is right.

My reading tasks No. 4
1. Which character in the story could be omitted and why?
- Ethan Munro, cousin to Logan Munro
I think that he could be omitted because he doesn't really say much or do much in the story and I think that it wouldn't matter if he's taken out.

My reading tasks No. 3
1. List three important events in your story and justify why you chose these events.
- Ivy moves to Scotland because of her new stepfather, and he's Scottish and owns a castle there.
I chose this event because it's a big part of Ivy's life and it's a big deal because she's moving from Charleston, South Carolina which is faraway from Scotland.
-Ivy meets Logan, the ghost boy, for the first time and is instantly in love with him.
I chose this event because Logan is a big part of the story and if he wasn't in the book, Ivy would probably die.
- Ivy and Emma (Emma is Ivy's new friend from high school,) destroy the evil and possesed red ruby ring.

Card One
As I waited for the bus doors to open, I hugged my mum goodbye. I was as excited as a kid’s first birthday party. My first day at school. My mum’s perfume was like roses to my nose. I could feel her nice warm, soft t-shirt against my cool face. I was excited and nervous. I had to make new friends. Make good choices around people and know what to do and how to do it. I got on the bus. I waved goodbye as hard as a door one last time to my mum and then I was off. As soon as the bus came to a crawl, I hopped off.

What if it was your birthday everyday?
If it was my birthday everyday, I would like have a party once every month and invite all my friends Brie, Sarah, Amber, Jasmine and my family. I would like to do something different every time and also something special that I would remember. I would also love to have a sleepover party every once in a while, that's really fun. At sleepover party's we sometimes have a midnight feast. My dream party is to go somewhere on a plane. There are also lots of bad things that can happen at party's like someone can't come, or you can't have a party, or it could just be awkward between some people. So just to be clear, it would be awesome to have your birthday everyday! :)

I'm so excited for camp. I am looking forward to everything but the hike. It's going to be so exhausting but I'm still going to do it. :D
How I feel about camp
I feel sad, excited, nervous and a little bit scared. My mum is only saying " yes, I think you should go" because she just wants me out of the house for a few days. I feel sad because I'm going to be away from my parents for a week. I feel excited because I sort of know what to expect and because I'm going to have all my friends around me. I feel nervous and scared because there are lots of activities I don't really like but I'm going to try them anyway. Well, it's not really like I have a choice if I want to do them or not because my teacher is pleading for everyone to go. I'm also going to bring my second favourite toy, 'Mia' a cute purple fluffy teddy bear. We also have to bring scroggin for the hike, biscuits for morning and afternoon tea and a game for the evening.

First week at school
The Name game
This week on Monday we played a game called the name game. So you stand in a circle and you pick someone to start. That person then walks towards someone else in the circle and says their name, or if you don't know their name, you can say sorry I don't know your name. Then you play till you know most peoples names, or if you want to make it harder you can time it.
My first day at school for 2015
On Monday, it was the first day of school for this year. I was feeling really nervous but also excited to see my friends again. When I walked through the door I could tell it was going to be an awesome day.
